ACAMIS FIRST LEGO League?Robotics Competition at WAB?

ACAMIS FIRST LEGO League?Robotics Competition at WAB?

The 2025 ACAMIS FIRST LEGO League robotics competition concluded on March 22 at the Western Academy of Beijing (WAB), bringing together student innovators from across Asia in a  celebration of robotics, creativity, and collaboration.

This year's theme, “Submerged,” challenged students to engineer and program LEGO robots capable of completing underwater-themed missions. Teams demonstrated their creativity and problem-solving skills across four equally weighted judging areas: Core Values, Innovation Project, Robot Design, and Robot Game.

Participating schools included Beijing World Youth Academy (BWYA), Chinese International School Hong Kong (CISHK), Keystone Academy, Shanghai American School Puxi (SASPX), and host school WAB. The event encourages young participants to develop skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while fostering innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Middle School Design teacher?Simon Furmston?emphasized it's a wonderful opportunity to bring teams from different regions on this robot game, presenting their designs and exploring how robotics can address underwater challenges.

Three of the WAB teams were recognized in different aspects of the competition:

  • APSSA?earned the?Breakthrough Award?for remarkable growth in confidence and technical skills.
  • Deep Divers?won the?Motivate Award?for their enthusiasm and team spirit.
  • Sulphur?took home?two awards: the?Core Values Award?for exemplifying teamwork and respect, and the?Robot Design Award?for their outstanding engineering and programming.

Grade 8 student Ava, a member of Deep Divers, shared that they have been preparing for the competition throughout the semester. During this time, they have been building and programming LEGO robots to complete different missions and solve challenges.

More than a competition, the event served as a platform for deep learning, systems thinking, and the development of essential future-ready competencies like collaboration, creative inquiry, and resilience.

Watch the video above to experience the energy, creativity, and engineering skills of these young innovators!
