WAB 1:1 Laptop Program
WAB is an Apple Distinguished School and runs a successful 1:1 laptop program.
All WAB students in Grades 6-12 are required to have their own Apple MacBook, all families must provide their child with a Mac laptop.
If you plan to purchase a new laptop, the minimum specifications recommended for school is below:
Any recent Apple laptop that meets the following minimum specifications is appropriate for use at WAB:
• Apple MacBook Air or Pro
• Processor speed – 8-Core CPU 7-Core GPU Apple M1 Chip
• RAM - 8 GB RAM
• SSD storage - 256GB
• 80GB Free space available for WAB required applications
• macOS Ventura (13.0) or higher - in English
MacBooks:
If you have purchased an Apple MacBook in the last two years, it is likely to meet the minimum specifications. However, if you are unsure, please contact [email protected] with details or bring your laptop to the nearest WAB IT Help Desk once the campus reopens and we will check whether it will be acceptable for use at WAB in the 2024-2025 school year.

You may purchase new laptops in Beijing or your home country. There are several ways you can purchase this.

By shopping around, you are likely to find a laptop bundled with additional accessories for a discount.
A laptop with an English Language Keyboard is compulsory.

Apple has an ‘Education Pricing’ offer for college students and teachers, some stores still might apply the discount if you inquire and provide an existing WAB-email.
Software:
WAB approved software collection is required for all student computers at WAB. The WAB IT department works closely with school sections to prepare this collection every year and arranges to purchase the required software and version. This software and updates are installed on all computers used at WAB via WAB's IT network.
WAB respects and follows all copyright laws and only puts legal software on computers used on premises.
WAB owned software collection is removed when students leave WAB.
Registering your Device at WAB
MacBooks brought to WAB need to be registered with IT when brought in to school to ensure that:
- they meet the minimum specifications
- are installed with all required software needed while the student is at WAB
- are configured with OneDrive for data backup and sync
- a loaner computer can be provided during laptop installation.
