Our Elementary School is a fun, creative, and inclusive place for young people to learn about and explore the world around them. Indoor and outdoor areas were designed to enhance the learning experience by challenging students to engage and take risks through study and play. Catherine Pierre-Louis, Principal

We All Belong
WAB's Elementary School is:
A Celebration of Inclusion and Diversity
From the moment students enter WAB, they feel welcomed and connected to fellow students, all sharing a diverse range of interests. Our dedicated teaching teams, expertly identify and champion each student's individual learning profile. Through close collaboration, they uncover strengths, explore areas for growth, and map out the next steps in each student's unique learning.
A Community of Learners
Each grade level team collectively supports the growth of all learners. Students learn in flexible supportive groups that adaptively meet their needs. Our learners and teachers collaborate to identify which skills need to be acquired and what resources or strategies will optimize learning. As part of a learning community, students move among a team of teachers within multiple learning spaces, achieving their goals and meeting their maximum potential.
Complete with Real-World Connections
With a China focus at its core, our learners can use their knowledge and skills to engage with the local and global community. Through our China Studies program, students are exposed to expert visitors, interactive experiences, and authentic content so that they can see how their learning applies to the real world and are future ready. The UN Sustainable Development Goals guide our learners as they consider real-world problems and become the agents of current and future change.
Curriculum
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme
Our curriculum is taught through the framework of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). The PYP is organized according to six transdiciplinary themes, also called Units of Inquiry (UOIs). These Units of Inquiry integrate different learning disciplines to strengthen student understanding.
Literacy
Students develop their English language skills through the interrelated strands of language, literature, and literacy. We focus on developing students’ knowledge, understanding, and skills in English for listening, speaking, reading, writing, presenting, and viewing.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, learners explore conceptual understanding, problem solving, and reasoning across the strands of number & algebra, measurement & geometry, and statistics & probability. Students construct meaning and conceptual understanding through the use of manipulatives and experimentation. They transfer their understanding into mathematical equations that they can apply to real world contexts.
Our curricular programs draw from ACARA standards. Our literacy program uses highly effective approaches to create readers, writers, and effective communicators. Our mathematics program, requires our students to have a deep conceptual understanding while being proficient in key skills.
