Activities & Clubs

WABX is the Western Academy of Beijing's co-curricular activities program. If it’s arts, athletics, a student club or activity that is happening outside the classroom, it's a WABX activity.

Throughout the year, WABX offers more than 300 club, language, and service options, as well as over 100 sporting options. WABX is the facilitator for sports tournaments, arts festivals, and special events.

Activities are offered from Senior Grade 1 to Grade 5 students in our Elementary School. These can include culture, games, arts, and sports. In Middle and High School students can choose from a range of activities and student-led clubs, including arts and service. Participation in a wide range of activities support students to develop interests and skills as well as find opportunities for leadership and personal success.

Elementary School

Elementary School After School Activities (ASA's)

Activities are offered from Senior Grade 1 to Grade 5 students in our Elementary School. These can include culture, games, arts, and sports. Below are a sample of the after-school activities available to Elementary students:

WABTV - This ASA is responsible for producing the weekly WAB TV episode. Students develop their writing, reporting, editing, filming, and producing skills.
Student Council - Students have the chance to join the Elementary School Student Council where they can help make a difference in the Elementary School.
Stop Motion Movie Making - Students learn how movies are made through the art of stop motion. Students will explore different types of stop motion and create their own movie.
Physical Activities - A range of physical activities are offered each season, from tag games, to multi sport activities, dance classes, and fun fitness training.
Lego Clubs - Lego for building and robotics, both choices are available during different ASA seasons supporting students passion for building, creating, or programming.
Reading for Pleasure - Students also have the opportunity to choose an after school activity around reading. This could be quiet reading time or listening to someone read aloud.

Middle & High School

Middle & High School Activities & Clubs

Our?extensive range of extra-curricular activities allows students to discover a new passion?or develop an established one.?Middle and High school clubs and activities take place both during and after school time and are led collaboratively?by?teachers and/or students.

The clubs available for students to join is subject to change each year based on student interest and schedules.

Below are a sample of the activities and clubs available to Middle and High School Students

Student Council
Each school section at WAB has its own Student Council, acting as the voice of the student body, and contributing to the ongoing development of our school. Involvement and responsibility grow as students move through the school sections, with the High School eventually organizing large social events.
MS STEAM Team
The Middle School STEAM Team meets every week to prepare for exciting inter-school Lego Robotics Competitions. During these sessions, students work together to design, build, and program their robots using LEGO kits. They learn important skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and coding while having fun with their peers. Each week, club members brainstorm ideas, test their robots, and refine their strategies to tackle the competition challenges.
Inkblot
Inkblot is WAB's student-run magazine. Distributed throughout the High School, the publication contains student articles, reviews, art, and other work by our High School students.
Model United Nations (MUN)
MUN is the ideal activity for students who are interested in global issues and public speaking and who would like to make a difference. Students follow the same format as the United Nations to try to solve issues currently facing the world.
ACAMIS Teams Mathematical Challenge
Teams of Grade 9 and 10 students race to answer math questions of increasing difficulty in a given time.
Yearbook Committees
In the Middle School, students put their creative minds together as part of an ASA to help design and plan the layout for school yearbook. In the High School, students take on much more work, and actually produce the yearbook largely on their own.
Tiger Sports Entertainment Network
As part of WAB broadcasting team, Tiger Sports Entertainment Network (TSEN) is an after-school activity where students live stream APAC sports and other campus-wide activities. Technical team members operate the Tri-Caster and on-field cameras, while announcers comment on games and conduct interviews with coaches and players.
World Scholars Cup
The World Scholar's Cup is a global organization where students compete as a team in debate, writing, and subject categories. Students will compete locally and, if they score well enough, they are invited to travel abroad in June to compete. If they score high enough in the summer global round, they are invited to an elite round at a prestigious university abroad.

Global Citizenship

At WAB, from Elementary through to High School, student-run groups challenge themselves and others by matching their interests with meaningful projects, all with the guidance of activity supervisors.

CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) is a continuation of WAB's Global Citizenship program for Grade 11 and 12 students, and a mandatory core component of the IB Diploma Programme.

The CAS components are an integral part of the WAB mission to connect, inspire, challenge, and make a difference. CAS is the heart of the diploma and takes seriously the importance of life outside the world of scholarship, providing a refreshing counterbalance to academic studies.
