Performing & Visual
Arts
The Arts thrive at the Western Academy of Beijing. Supported by a talented and creative faculty of trained teachers and artists, students learn foundational skills while also being challenged to express their own artistic vision.
Choir, Band, Orchestra, and Instrumental Program
WAB offers a rich variety of opportunities for students of all school sections to express themselves through music. Our vocal music program includes Choir and opportunities for individual and student-organized group performances. Our instrumental music program includes String Orchestra, Beginner Band, Intermediate Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band.
Students often organize smaller bands and perform in concerts, assemblies, or other events like Rock in the Park. Students can also audition to represent WAB in different musical conferences such as the Asia Pacific Activities Conference (APAC) Music Conference, and The International Schools Choral Music Society (ISCMS) Festival which showcases the talent of students from various international schools in the region.
Visual Arts
WAB students can participate in after-school activities designed to develop self-confidence and skills in visual arts. This includes the opportunity to create and display their work at school, have it published in school publications, and share their knowledge and creativity.
Dance
Drama
Elementary, Middle, and High School all offer after-school drama activities aimed at developing students’ abilities on stage, as well as their self-confidence, creativity, teamwork, and public speaking skills. Each school section presents a play or musical every year. In addition to acting opportunities, WAB students assist with set design, lighting, and sound, acting as stage crew for each production.
High School students can also audition to represent WAB in the Asia Pacific Activities Conference (APAC) Drama Festival.
Film
Elementary, Middle, and High School all offer students the opportunity to further develop their skills in filming, editing, and being in front of the camera in a range of after-school activities. Student-produced films, TV episodes, and broadcast activities are shared with their peers and the wider community. The prestigious WAB Identity Film Festival showcases the creativity and skill of our High School film students and the Tiger Sports and Entertainment Network (TSEN) club broadcasts key WAB activities to the world.
