How We Learn
Learning at WAB is a transformative process, which is intentional and iterative, challenging and joyful, and serves an authentic purpose.
We value education as a force towards positive change in the world. Guided by our mission and core values, we prioritize supportive and challenging learning for the whole child, nurturing each student as they develop as an individual and as a global citizen.
Our Strategy 2022+ plan focuses on an education that empowers our learners to lead as agents of sustainable and ethical approaches to living and life-long learning and become champions of inclusion through diversity, equity, anti-racism, and social justice.
Welcome to WAB
A top international school in China with 1,400 students and world-class facilities, WAB looks towards the future while honoring the past. Our vibrant community embraces inclusive and innovative learning, supported by cutting-edge resources, all within a warm and diverse environment that fosters personal growth and excellence.
The International Baccalaureate (IB)
The IB develops inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through education that builds intercultural understanding and respect.
An IB education is unique because of its rigorous academic standards and its holistic approach to education. IB programmes challenge students to excel not only in their learning but also in their personal growth.
Inquiry is central to all teaching and learning in the IB. The inquiry model builds on student’s prior knowledge and enables students to think critically, raise their own questions, and develop their research skills. As an IB learner, students are also encouraged to apply what they have learned to take meaningful action in their local communities.
International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP)
In the Elementary School, structured inquiry takes place within the IB PYP framework as the main vehicle for student learning in relevant, real-world contexts. Through experience and discovery, students have countless opportunities to grow. We work as a team so that the children who are educated in WAB's international setting gain the knowledge, skills, and understanding so that they can contribute positively to their future communities.

International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP)
Starting in Grade 6, our Middle School lays the groundwork for student success and the transition to High School with years 1-3 of the IB MYP. With this program, students develop an understanding of their own approaches to learning and independence in subject-specific objectives and assessment practices, as well as an appreciation of service and action. These experiences deepen students' understanding of program concepts and what it means to be an internationally minded member of the global community.
In Grades 9-10, IB MYP students study eight courses each year. Grade 10 students complete a MYP Personal Project outside of class time, exposing them to independent research and critical reflection in an area of personal passion and interest.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)
In our High School, Grade 11 and 12 students have the opportunity to participate in the IBDP. The full IB Diploma is offered to all WAB students. Six subject groups are available for diploma students to choose from, each including a range of courses, with three at higher level and three at standard level. Students must also complete the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course, write an extended essay, and fulfill Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) commitments outside of class time.
