2010-2012
What brought your family to WAB/Beijing?
My father's work as a diplomat for the Icelandic embassy.
Where are you located now?
Bejing, China.
What are you doing now?
I'm working as an artist and my work mainly focuses on fine art, oil painting, and mixed media.
What's your fondest memory of WAB?
My fondest memories are of art classes at WAB. In art class, the teacher understood me and allowed me to explore different types of art over the course of two years. We could always work on our pieces during our spare time, whether after school or on the weekends. The supportive environment, diverse culture, and encouragement from both teachers and peers have played a significant role in helping me develop my identity as an artist later in life.
Please share a story on how you are still making a difference today.
My paintings are a reflection of this journey, expressing a dialectic experience of self. The subjects in my work often appear alien, yet they mold to their environment, mirroring my own experiences of adaptation and belonging. In my work, I grapple with the contradiction between the Western concept of "finding oneself" and the Eastern philosophy of "no self," where all things are in constant flux. This tension is a central theme in my art, reflecting my own cultural duality.
I'm making all my dreams into a reality and I hope to inspire others to follow their dreams too.
