WAB High School Dances the Night Away at the Snowball

WAB High School Dances the Night Away at the Snowball

This article was written by Kabir Jeet Singh, a student council member from Grade 10, who assisted in organizing the Snowball.

The Koi Garden brimmed with a shared feeling of enthusiasm—a night of dance, food, and song awaited high schoolers. On December 6, as the cold Beijing wind swept through the city, the WAB campus was alive with excitement. The Student Council was hosting one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the calendar, the second annual Snowball, an evening of celebration and rejuvenation following the first semester's hard work.

Preparation for the event was a collective effort, reflecting the dedication and creativity of the Student Council and volunteers. Hours before the event, council members meticulously set up decorations, transforming the campus into a winter wonderland. The dance floor sparkled under the glow of the disco ball, and the edges of the balcony were adorned with shimmering string lights. The Koi Garden, already a serene and picturesque location, became the heart of the festivities, with carefully rolled-out carpets adding a touch of elegance.

As the night unfolded, students were greeted with a feast for the senses. The aroma of delectable finger foods crafted by Sodexo wafted through the air, with an array of options catering to all tastes. The stage hosted dynamic performances from WAB's own high school bands that had everyone clapping and cheering. From upbeat tracks to soulful ballads, the music brought everyone together on the dance floor.

The evening was more than just a dance; it was a celebration of community. Teachers and students mingled, capturing candid moments that would become cherished memories. The laughter and joy were infectious, with students taking selfies, dancing with friends, and savoring the night's unique vibe. The event not only allowed students to unwind but also served as a reminder of the vibrant community spirit that defines WAB.

Moreover, the Student Council was able to raise a record 21,466.77 RMB through contributions from students and SWEA, the Swedish Women's Education Association. The total amount raised was enough to finance the medical expenses of at least two children at Dew Drops, an organization based in Beijing that focuses on providing care for orphaned children with special needs. Dew Drops has 10+ children who have recently undergone surgery for cleft lips, which impacted their ability to receive orthodontic treatment. All support generated by Snowball has facilitated the recovery of those children.

Prior to the Snowball, the WAB community has been active in supporting the children at Dew Drops. Fundraisers and visits from WAB students are frequently organized by KM for Love.

"Not only was the event really fun to be a part of, but I am very glad that the donations are going to a noble cause. I love that I am a part of this," said Myriam, who performed at the dance. Personifying WAB’s traits of compassion, members of high school made a significant impact on the livelihoods of children currently in Dew Drops whilst creating unforgettable memories.

By the end of the night, the Snowball had fulfilled its promise of an unforgettable experience. As students left the transformed campus, their smiles and laughter echoed in the chilly night, marking another successful chapter in WAB’s history of student-led events. The Snowball was not just a dance but a testament to the power of coming together, celebrating achievements, and creating moments that would last a lifetime.
