The Impact of Global Citizenship through Student-Led Community Partnerships?

The Impact of Global Citizenship through Student-Led Community Partnerships?

Following on from our article earlier this year on "What does Global Citizenship Mean at WAB", we have reached out to 3 student groups to find out more about the impact Global Citizenship has had through their community partnerships

Our definition of Global Citizenship was developed as a collaborative project involving multiple stakeholders and resulted in the following:?"At WAB we believe that we are all global citizens, and our decisions today impact future generations. A successful global citizen is aware of and seeks to understand pressing global issues, furthers social justice, respects and engages with diverse cultures and identities, lives in harmony with nature, and recognizes a responsibility to take action in local and global contexts."

Benji, Jeremy, and Rodger student leaders of ProFarmer, shared that their group’s objective is to support local farmers in Beijing by educating them about fair trade practices. They further introduced the initiatives undertaken by the club this year and the significant impact they have had. In their own words, “As time passed, the club's evolved too. We've moved towards community partnerships, working with local farms here, selling their products, improving their access to markets that are traditionally dominated by bigger brands.” Moreover, the club is also actively exploring ways to educate our own community members about sustainable agricultural practices and how we can contribute to this cause.

Angelia, Serah, and Sophia, student leaders of the Mingde Project, shared how they have been collaborating to provide support to students in a primary school in Shanxi Province by teaching them art, physical education, and music as well as helping provide them with educational resources.

Harry and Sunny, student leaders of Acts for Elderly, expressed their goal to assist Alzheimer's patients, as research has shown that increased interaction can positively impact their symptoms. They shared the range of actions they have taken together with their community partner including music performances and fun activities.

Throughout the year, WAB students have participated in and organized multiple events to support their club work, ensuring their efforts have a long-term and positive impact.
