Mingde Primary School Upgraded by Grade 11 Students' Initiatives
Mingde Primary School is located in Shanxi, Datong region, in a very poor where most students have been 'left behind' to be cared for by grandparents or the school while their parents work in Beijing. The Grade 11 High School students visited during China Studies this year to run classes in the areas of English, Art, Science, PE, and Music.
Upon returning from the trip, they wanted to do more to help the children they had grown so close to. The students worked with Parent Link (WAB's Parent Organization) to raise over 20,000 RMB for the ‘Bring the Warmth’ campaign, where they were able to provide warm coats, socks, bedding, and mattresses for the winter season.
The project went to the next level when they began thinking about long-term and sustainable solutions for the students and began working on collecting donations of books and computers to build an ICT Lab and English and Chinese Language reading corners, that were installed during June 15-16.
