Profiles of WAB Alumni Award Student Applicants

Profiles of WAB Alumni Award Student Applicants

Continuing on our series, we are highlighting the achievements of all applicants for the 30th Anniversary - Profiles of WAB Alumni Award. Congratulations to each of our student applicants and we are so proud of their achievements.

This week, we will spotlight two student applicants:

Luca – Grade 8

Luca used a wide range of examples to demonstrate his alignment with the domains of the Profile of WAB alumni. He defines personal success as setting and achieving meaningful goals and after intensive training he was selected as the youngest sailor for Team China at the 2023 Topper World Championships in Ireland. He shared examples of how he has engaged in leadership and service activities, applied design thinking in entrepreneurial endeavors, and mastered digital tools while balancing traditional learning methods.

Luca uses examples of his work on the Student Council, as a MS Ambassador, and his support of elementary student projects to show his perseverance, inclusive leadership, and actions towards environmental sustainability.  As a student correspondent for Jingkids, they have shared book recommendations to promote mental health through literature.

He shared: "It is during my sailing journey that I have been made to realize the importance of resilience and perseverance in taming the challenges of the ocean, the currents, winds, and the scorching sun. I believe that this lesson carries over to life as a whole, where success often demands a balance between grit and passion in various situations."

Marc – Grade 8

Marc used personal stories in his application to highlight how he meets the profile of a WAB alumni. Through examples of personal goals and self-directed learning, he illustrated how he is an inspired and successful learner. His adaptability and innovation were evidenced through his use of design thinking and iterative processes as he developed and completed projects. He used his experiences living in multiple countries and participation in cultural exchanges to demonstrate his intercultural competence.

Marc has taken ethical and sustainable actions in studying sustainable fashion and proposing projects to reduce food waste. He has worked to practice his critical and creative communication through public speaking and has demonstrated critical thinking in his work.

He expressed: "I've been at WAB since Kindergarten. I’m grateful for the opportunities this school community has given me to learn and grow. I’ve had time to explore many things and find what I’m good at and this taught me I can do the same for others now and in the future, too. Working through the Profile of a WAB Alumni helped me to reflect on my journey and find areas where I can grow and learn more. This process helped me to see what my next steps are here at WAB and beyond. Thanks, WAB!"

Profile of WAB Alumni Awards Series Conclusion

This is the final piece of our Profile of WAB Alumni Awards Series, shedding light on the diverse journeys of our applicants. While some candidates opted not to showcase their personal applications publicly, all those we spotlighted generously shared their insights on growth, experiences, and connections with WAB. We take immense pride in each of our 27 applicants, as their profiles distinctly embody the agency, mastery, and impact of WAB alumni. Wishing them all the best of luck in the future!
