This week, WAB's Grade 10 students have engaged in World of Work (WoW), a program designed to provide them with hands-on experiences in various industries.
Arina Mei, WAB's High School Counselor, explained the purpose of World of Work is "to support our G10 students in gaining real-world work experience by prompting them to identify their passion and interests, discover their strengths, and learn new skills - therefore making an informed choice about their future."
According to Arina, this year's World of Work covered many industries, including:
-
Health & Medical: Students had the chance to explore international hospitals, mental health clinics, dental clinics, physical rehabilitation centers, and yoga institutes.
-
Technology: Participants engaged with companies focused on technology development, game development, and AI integration.
-
Hospitality: Students had the opportunity to visit high-end hotels and restaurants, gaining insights into the workings of this sector.
-
Art & Design: The WoW program included visits to architecture firms, interior design studios, and art galleries, immersing students in the creative world.
-
Media and Journalism: Participants had the chance to interact with professionals in media companies, gaining valuable insights into the field.
-
Governmental Organizations / NGOs: Students had the opportunity to explore embassies, UN-related organizations, and chambers of commerce from different countries, learning about the role of such entities.
-
Non-profit Organizations: The WoW program also involved interactions with local and international non-profit oragnizations, allowing students to understand the importance of philanthropy and community involvement.
Arina emphasized that World of Work offers students the chance to acquire career-related education and actual work experience. Throughout the program, students could acquire many essential career skills, such as resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, workplace etiquette, and identifying their strengths.
By participating in the World of Work, students can better determine whether their interests and skills align with their desired occupations. Additionally, the WAB Career Fair is an annual event where students can engage with professionals in their fields of interest and gain valuable insights from industry experts. Altogether, both World of Work and the Career Fair help our students better understand different industries and their own interests, guiding their choices at WAB and beyond.?
