WAB starts 30th Anniversary Celebrations with Archive Launch
"30 years ago, in January?1994, WAB was given permission to become a school," said Dr. Marta Medved Krajnovic, Head of School, as she cut the ribbon, marking the launch of the WAB History Archive and the commencement of a series of celebrations for our 30th Anniversary.
On January 29, School founder Mr. Michael Crook, WAB Board Chair Natalie Azzopardi, and Dr. Medved Krajnovic warmly welcomed old friends and special guests who have supported our growth over the past 30 years.
The guests not only had the opportunity to listen to students' presentations on Chinese culture but also took a tour of WAB's campus to see how it has grown since we were founded. As part of the celebrations, was the inaugural performance of our 2 new "tiger dance" costumes. Custom ordered for WAB, these 2 tigers will help us open the school year with each community picnic and celebrate any major events.
The WAB History Archive has both physical and digital versions. Artifacts showing the history of WAB can be found in all school buildings, however, our newest display outside Lotus Lounge features museum-style exhibits including photos, old yearbooks to flip through, different WAB giveaways including an extra special Yanzi (swallow) kite from 2001.
The Yanzi Kite symbolizes dreams, courage, tradition, and innovation, ideals that resonate with WAB and are part of what has brought us to our 30th year. The growth of WAB from a school with 147 students in 1994 to one with over 1300 students today is attributed to the dedication and Gong He spirit of WAB staff, the support of our parents, and most importantly, the student-centered approach to everything we do.
"The WAB History Archive Launch marks the beginning of a significant project to preserve and celebrate the history of our school," said Kun Jiao, Head of Alumni, Advancement, and Archiving at WAB. She continued, "The Archive program not only serves as a valuable learning opportunity for our students but also creates a lasting legacy that will benefit future generations. Thank you to all who have contributed to this project, and we encourage others to participate in preserving the rich history of the WAB community."
WAB remains committed to its tradition of excellence and continues to embody the spirit of its founding. As a leading IB international school with world-class facilities, WAB eagerly seeks the future while honoring its past.
